Soundslike: Get in the Water!
Near Asuza, California, there’s this thing called the Bridge to Nowhere, which is essentially a bridge that was built going into a the side of a rock. There are traces of old mineral mines out here, and along the way we passed people panning for gold. The Bridge was supposed to connect the San Gabriel Valley to Wrightwood in the 1930’s. Now, all the Bridge to Nowhere is useful for is people bungee jumping off it.
It’s about a 5 mile hike into the desert river valley to get to this bridge, and then about a 5 mile hike out, but all the swimming holes make it worth it.
On this hike, I found something out about myself: I’d consider bungee jumping, no problem, but getting into ice cold swimming hole water? No way.
